Hello and thank you for checking out our Etsy shop. My name is Noah, owner of Bar It Up and I am a United States Marine Corps veteran. I served from 2004 to 2009. While in Iraq, the Navy Sea Bees had brought some lumber for us to use to make whatever shelter or anything we needed.
We had the shelter at the camp we were stationed out of, but I felt I could use a desk to write letters back then before smart phones, and internet were easily accessible. So I crafted a small but stable desk with a sliding drawer. Mind you, we had very minimal tools to do whatever, it was Iraq after all... it wasn't a special looking desk, but it did the job and I enjoyed it too, takes a lot off your mind. I would do some carpentry here and there, mostly for myself at home, now I didn't consider myself an expert by any means, in fact I'm still learning something new everyday.
Fast forward to 2015, I unintentionally started Bar It Up when I wanted to create a bar table in my garage. I wanted something small but cool looking to be able to host my birthday party with, and all my friends loved it. Next thing you know, I'm being asked by friends to build them a table, so I did and took pictures and started to create a portfolio of my work just to remember certain projects. It wasn't like all my friends wanted a table, just a couple and I thought that was it.
A year before that, my son was diagnosed with autism at the age of three and being new parents, we really didn't know what to do or what was out there as far as resources go. We had him in therapy sessions and my job's insurance wasn't covering autism, so we had to foot that bill. The sessions were working and we didn't want to take him off it. It was expensive but our children's needs should always come first. So I needed to find a way to be there for my son and still be able to afford our regular bills and now his needs.
My wife and I discussed promoting my work that I had done for my friends. So I posted a few on some social media pages and listing sites and I received a few orders, nothing big.
Late 2015, people were asking if I had a business card or a page with all my work displayed, I hadn't thought about it but I looked into it and started doing some stuff online here and there. It was all new to me, so it took some time. Next thing you know, 2016 I get a call from a local celebrity and business owner in Chicago who wanted a bar table, then it all became word of mouth. I'm doing tables for hotels all of the sudden, then some pro sport charity events and we even did one for the owner of the Chicago Cubs. I had so many orders, I had to get help, so my long time friend and an Army vet stepped in and together we started turning tables.
Eventually I wanted to do other items that can go with bar tables, smaller items that you can purchase here on Etsy which are made with the same love for wood working that I had found out I had when I was deployed to Iraq. Everything we make, it is made as if we were creating it for ourselves. It is done as close to perfect as we can try to make it.
Everything we do is custom made or was custom made at some point, and we love custom orders. I always say, if you're not being challenged, you're not improving. A little something I picked up in my years of service. When you shop Bar It Up, you're helping our family as we create something awesome for you and yours.
Thank you,
Noah Ramos
